Why is it so hard to find a decent sausage?
It’s a sad fact that the vast majority of sausages available are, quite frankly, pants. Either they’re low in actual meat, or the flavour just isn’t there, or the consistency isn’t right, or there’s so much water in them that they end up boiling in the pan, or exploding!
To quote from Wikipedia – “The minimum meat content to be labelled Pork Sausages is 42% (30% for other types of meat sausages), although to be classed as meat, the Pork can contain 30% fat and 25% connective tissue. Often the cheapest supermarket pork sausages do not have the necessary meat content to be described as “pork sausages” and are simply labelled “sausages”; with even less meat content they are described as “bangers” “.
For those that don’t like maths, that means your “pork sausage” bought from the supermarket could contain as little as 19% actual pork…

Indeed! Have you ever been for a fried breakfast, only to have the experience ruined by a sub-par sausage? I certainly have; more times than I can count!
The Crafty Swine is dedicated to reversing this perversion of the Great British classic by bringing you top quality craft sausages, made with the utmost care, with meat from the best sources.
What’s your story?
After years of searching for the perfect sausage, I decided to start making my own. They were such a success, and I got so much enjoyment from sharing them with friends and family, that I created The Crafty Swine to share what a sausage should be with you.

When we’re not busy lovingly crafting the best sausages and bacon in the world, you can find us at various festivals and events around the UK.
As well as our peerless BBQ’d sausages, you can expect to find us serving low ‘n’ slow pulled pork served with a delicious slaw and our own incredible BBQ sauce.
